Ultimately large shrub, but of moderate growth rate, deciduous or semi-evergreen in mild locations. Glossy green leaves about 75mm long arranged in whorls at the ends of the branches. Clusters of bell-shaped reddish purple to red flowers in late spring.
From Japan and Korea. Now rare in the wild.
