Very upright growth habit with short side branches and very tall growing if the conditions suit. Good bold foliage of narrow lace-shaped leaves gives it an exotic appearance. The stiff, straight culms turn from green to purplish brown as they age. Slow spreading to make dense clumps, may run slightly.
Moist, fertile soil in sun or part shade.
By division in spring.
Specimen plant or tall screens and hedges. Useful where a tall plant is needed for a restricted space.
