Strong growing shrub with oposite pinnate green leaves with 3 to 7 ovate-oblong leaflets. Drooping panicles of small, bell-shaped, slightly pink-flushed, white flowers in late spring, followed by the curious, bladder-like, two or three celled, greenish-white fruit.
Any moist, well drained soil in full sun or part shade. Prefers neutral to acid soils but tolerant of a wide range of conditions.
From seed sown in autumn, by greenwood cuttings in early summer, semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer or layering.
The seeds are edible.
