Spreading, bushy habit with edible fleshy, brittle, green leaves. Tender perennial but can be treated as a half-hardy annual. Insignificant yellow flowers.

Light well drained soil in full sun. Thrives in dry soils, tolerant of drought and salty coastal locations. Not frost hardy.

From seed or cuttings

Edible raw or cooked, as a spinach substitute. Leaves are best picked when young.
