description:
Marginal aquatic perennial with large, ovate/lance-shaped, grey-green leaves, sometimes white-bloomy, on long stalks rising from the shallow water's edge. Foliage is evergreen in warm climates but deciduous in areas with cold winters. Slender panicles of violet flowers borne on tall slender stalks in mid or late summer. Does not attain large growth size in cool climates.

cultivation:
Fertile, loamy soil or deep humus-rich mud at the edges of pools or lakes. Will grow in water to about 15cm deep. Full sun or some light shade. Prefers warm conditions but when planted in water which does not freeze to a great depth, will tolerate cold winters.
