description:
Clump forming perennial with fleshy corm-like rhizomes which produce narrowly linear, greyish green leaves and from summer to early autumn, stems bearing umbels sweetly fragrant lilac flowers. The foliage smells of garlic.

cultivation:
Needs well drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. Dislikes cold, wet winter conditions and although it will normally survive short periods down to about -10C, best given some protection from frosts. May be grown in a cool greenhouse or conservatory.
