Low growing evergreen with a lax creeping habit , thin wiry stems and small leathery leaves. Small pink flowers, followed by edible dark-red berries.
Similar to Vaccinium oxycoccos but with slightly larger leaves.
Needs moist to boggy, peaty lime-free soil. Do not use fertiliser or fresh manure-based composts as it may scorch the roots. Very cold hardy.
Can be grow in containers with suitable ericaceous compost.
By seed, cuttings, layering or division of suckers
Edible fruits, often used for drinks and sauces. Very benificial to health and used medicinally.
