Rounded evergreen shrub with an open habit or sometimes reaching the size of a small tree. Dark green, glossy, tapering leaves with conspicuously veins. Terminal heads of small, tubular white flowers in spring or early summer, followed by small glossy, blue-black berries.

Needs a mild, sheltered location. Most well drained soils in sun or part shade.
