description:
Medium to large evergreen shrub of open habit, becoming tree-like with age. Leathery elliptic glossy green leaves up to 12cm long. Domed panicles of fragrant, creamy-white flowers in summer, followed by ellipsoid red fruits, ripening to black. Foliage turns bronzy in winter.

cultivation:
Any reasonably fertile, moist, well drained soil in sun or part shade.
If required, prune back shoots after flowering.

Native to central China, Discovered by Augustine Henry and introduced to Europe by E.H. Wilson in 1901.
