Large upright, strong growing shrub, normally evergreen or may be semi-evergreen in cold winters. Very large deeply ribbed leaves. Lower leaf surfaces, new shoots and flower buds are covered with fuzzy brown felt. Large heads of small yellowish-white flowers opening from dark pink buds in spring.

Any reasonably fertile, moist, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Will thrive on chalky soils and tolerant of shade. Robust and normally trouble-free.
If required, prune back shoots after flowering.
