Small dark green leaves, spreads by self rooting stems to make a good ground cover. More tidy in habit than the larger Vinca major. Free flowering over a long period, the small flowers are usually pale violet-purple but colour varies somewhat between individual plants.
Will grow in most soils and situations. Thrives on clay soils. Flowers best in sun.
May become invasive. Can be cut back hard in early spring.
By division or semi-ripe cuttings.
Effective and tough ground cover even in difficult situations.
Used medicinally, the leaves contain the alkaloid vincamine which effects blood flow. Has been used to treat internal bleeding, nose bleeds, excessive menstrual bleeding and forms of dementia and memory loss.
