Compact short-lived perennial, often grown as a biennial. Dark green leaves. Small yellow flowers with almost black blotches at the centres. The upper petals are much paler yellow than the lower ones, giving a two-tone effect. Very free flowering over a long period, mostly in spring and summer but can bloom at any time of year.

Moist humus rich soil in part shade. Dead head regularly to promote flowering.
