Cormous perennial making clumps of sword-shaped leaves. Branched spikes of tubular orange-red to salmon flowers with flaring lobes. Does not normally set seed but produces abundant bulbils on the flower scape.
Moist, well drained, light soil that does not dry out in summer. Not very frost hardy, protect in winter by mulching.
By bulbils or division of clumps.
Native to South Africa, naturalised elsewhere, for example Australia where it is regarded as an invasive weed.
